CAP Job Club

Hi, my name is Tess and I have been attending Mowbray Community Church with my family for about 10 years now. With both children in school I was looking to contribute more to the life of the church and the Harrogate community it serves. When I heard that the charity CAP (Christians Against Poverty) ran Job Clubs in partnership with local Churches I was really excited by the concept.

So as a team we ran our first Job Club course in January 2018 and met some great people! It has been a pleasure and a privilege to travel that journey together, seeing people grow in confidence and some even finding paid or voluntary work. I would love to say it has all been plain sailing but I have faced a few challenges along the way. I sometimes wondered if I had bitten off more than I could chew – actually quite literally when I had wisdom teeth extracted the week before starting our second course!!! Not good timing. However every time I have felt unequal to the task, God has proved it is only by His strength and for His glory that we do anything.

Each week of the course covers different employment topics in a stepped approach, ranging from Motivation to CV Writing to Interview Skills. However it is about so much more than this. It is about recognising that God has created everybody unique and precious in His sight. We want each person who walks through the door, to know how valuable they are in His eyes and in ours.
